Day 4 - Charlie Brisch

Today in Personal Finance, we began the day with the opening bell. After Dr. Salem talked about the day, we jumped into our student presentations. Alice and Sara presented today, and they both gave us incredible presentations. Alice presented on health and insurance, and how insurances work, the different types, plans, and benefits. Sara presented on taxes and taxation. This gave us insight on what taxes we pay and why, how tax filing works, the different types of taxes, and what the taxes do for us. After both of those presentations, we were given time to work on our Life Game spreadsheet and run it past Dr. Salem to make sure that the spreadsheet makes sense. The Life Game is a spreadsheet that is basically budgeting the rest of your life and your net worth. The only thing is, it isn't the most realistic due to we are assuming everything until age 65. After Dr. Salem okayed the spreadsheet, we were able to do a reflection on how we felt and what we thought while filling it out.

After our lunch break, we started the seminars for the books we are reading. For The Richest Man in Babylon, we had a seminar on chapter 5, The 5 Laws of Gold. These are just how the way money works and what you should do with your money. In our other book, Dave Ramsey's Complete Guide to Money, we had a seminar on chapters 5 and 6, Credit Sharks in Suits and Buyer Beware. In these chapters, Ramsey is giving his personal feelings on debt collectors, how to stay away from debt, and what to do if you do end up in these situations. The other is what credit score does (Ramsey isn't a fan of credit scores), and what to do with identity theft. To end the day, we started watching The Big Short, which is based off a true story. It is where the main character decides to short the housing market.
